I am a fifty-two-year-old former small business owner. I am now medically
retired. I suffer from Parkinson’s Disease but that is not what this blog is
about. I may occasionally link to fund raisers for the Fox Foundation, but that
is about as much as I will post about Parkinson’s.
I was born in Birmingham, Alabama and my family moved to Georgia when I was
just over a year old. I've pretty much spent my entire life in Cobb County,
Georgia. I spent a wonderful three years in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. When I meet
someone new, they almost always ask, "you have lived in Georgia almost
your entire life. What made you go to the University of Alabama?" It's easy
and I will probably go into it more in depth one day on this blog. My father
was dirt poor growing up in Gadsden, Alabama. God blessed him though with size,
strength and a left arm that could throw a baseball hard and accurate. When his
little league team went to the Little League World Series the local paper had
already named him "The Hefty Lefty." He was recruited by MLB teams
(they did not have a draft back then) and several colleges. Like many in the
Greatest Generation my grandfather laid down the law. He told my Dad, "you
are getting a college degree before anything else." He accepted a
scholarship to pitch for the Crimson Tide. (Kenny Stabler was a pitcher at that
time as well)
I owned an Insurance Agency for almost 15 years and sold it. I was a Captive
Agent for a large full-service company. When you see an agent on billboard in
your hometown just know they are most likely an independent contractor that
owns their own business. Final thought on this. If you have ever taken out a
policy online or over the "800" number for a company and then went to
a local agent to fix or ask questions about that policy, I hate you like
poison. I'm just kidding but not really.
I decided to create this blog because I am bored, and I always wanted to be
a writer. If no one reads it so, be it. It gives me something to do. If you do
come across my site, please feel free to comment. The name of the blog says it
all. I am a Gen-Xer. So I am not going to list a bunch of rules. The main rule?
Don’t be a dick.
